As a corporate trainer for more than 30 years, Kim and her partners know how to reach your organization in ways that empower and inspire everyone so collectively, they all reach greater heights. Leadership training has gone through an evolution in the past 5 years. With the invention of AI and other critical “time saving” skills, your team may be in dire need of upskilling and inclusion.
Different brains and learning styles require different approaches to management, leadership and team building. Much of which is new and requires new ways of thinking to ensure efficiency, increased productivity and results. Reaching your entire group is a skill Kim’s team will bring to your organization in droves.
Music gives us a perfect analogy to explain the Kim Zoller Method™’s approach to leadership training. It involves 3 core areas to help your organization reach its maximum potential: team effectiveness, leadership effectiveness and personal effectiveness.
Music gives a perfect analogy to explain how the Kim Zoller Method™ approaches leadership training…
Team effectiveness (and efficiency) are reached when company members offer a coordinated set of efforts to reach your goals. Everyone is important. Everyone’s role matters. Think of team effectiveness like an orchestra where musical notes are played in harmony and aligned with one another.
Communication: Effective communication is crucial for top performance and achieving your objectives. When one musician misses a cue, it affects the process and the outcome. When everyone is in tune, the shared rhythm reverberates to achieve the desired result.
Common Goal: An upcoming performance creates a common goal for your organization. A shared goal breaks down barriers and allows people to collaborate, listen to each other and work in harmony.
Trust & Understanding: An orchestra is not just a collection of skilled musicians—it’s a community of accountable individuals who rely on each other to achieve success. Musicians rely on one another and it’s only through trust and collaboration that a beautiful symphony is played.
Culture: Over time, every orchestra develops its own distinct sound. With the right training and discipline, people come together, build energy from each other and truly create a unique sound. The sum of attitude and beliefs impacts how people communicate, work and make decisions.
Diversity: Changing the mix of instruments can shift the listener’s perspective, which can make familiar songs sound wonderfully unexpected. Diversity cultivates innovation and creativity.
The musician in the first chair plays a pivotal role in leading the rest of their cohort. Each instrument section typically has one “first chair” and that person’s role ripples out to the rest of the musicians in incredibly meaningful ways.
Executive Leadership: The First Chair is an accomplished musician who sets the example. He or she drives toward the common goal and motivates everyone to stay on task. This requires credibility, reliability, and presence.
Depth: Orchestras need leadership at every level. The conductor cues the entire group, and first chairs act as section leaders who provide ongoing support specific to their respective instrument and skills.
Solo: First chairs often have “solo” roles or work that only they perform. This role is critical to the overall results of the performance because solos allow a single person to shine while also amplifying the beauty of the entire performance.
Core: To lead others it’s critical to be a leader of self. This is playing our own instrument with mastery and leading others by example without a title, praise or seeking attention.
Personal effectiveness is all about an individual's commitment to a goal or result regardless of what everyone around them is doing. It is being a leader of self at an entirely different level and is the hallmark of personal leadership which is a skill that can be taught, but requires a personal drive to nurture it so results are achieved.
Awareness: Self-awareness facilitates the mastery of an instrument. Awareness of others helps create a masterful sound as a team. Personal effectiveness is a result of building self awareness and social awareness of others, community and your industry at large. This kind of awareness can be transferred to any (and every) leadership role when it is properly nurtured.
Influence: Even if you’re not the conductor, you still can influence others and make a positive impact. When you utilize your innate talent and skills, you can build relationships and impact change around you through your thoughts and actions.
Presentation: As a performer, a musician needs to project confidence in order to make an impact on others. Being able to present oneself with confidence, clarity and courage comes from having positive self-talk, growth mindset and clear communication. This is what drives executive presence.
